Looks like it's gonna be fairly warm over the coming weekend for the CSM. Any particular recommendations for ski waxing and preparation? Also, is it worth using several layers of glide wax if you're going to be out for 80 km on a single day? How about base binder? Is it worth using more than one coat? Thanks! |

Hi Rene
For grip wax on Saturday I'd definitely recommend a binder wax. Just put a single thin layer on. You can cover that with a couple of layers of blue and then several layers of the wax of the day. Since it'll get warmer over the day, you'll have to continue to apply warmer wax as the temperature rises.
In terms of glide wax. I'd use LF6 since that will probably give you the greatest range and it'll be fairly durable. You could mix in some graphite if you expect the snow will be fairly abrasive. For the Sunday, it looks like it'll be fairly warm to start. So use the same binder wax under layer and then cover with a layer of blue and then follow with the wax of the morning, likely a purple or extra purple. Don't forget to write a report and I'll post it on the website!

Oh waxing guru, how should I wax for the CSM this wkend? The forecast predicts well below 0 when we start rising to well above during the day. |

Hi Kathy
See my response to Rene. In terms of dealing with the change in temperature, you'll have to keep adding warmer wax throughout the day. Don't make the layers too thick, but use several. Glide wax will be a bit trickier since it's going to warm up. I'd put on an LF 6 which is - 6 to -12 range. That way it'll stand up and glide well for much of the day.

how to wax for cold weather? |
| On January 9th, 2009, Peter Lloyd answered:

Hey Geoff
If you're going out in cold weather and the snow is very abrasive, e.g. dry and new, you can glide wax in some graphite. That helps to make the glide wax tougher so it stays on longer. Glide wax for cold weather is usually an LF or CH 4 (depending on the snow temperature).
In terms of grip wax, you can add a binder wax as your first layer. You put it on very thin, and then use an iron to melt it in the base. Put the skis outside to harden the binder and then put on your regular coats of wax. Was that what you were looking for?

Hi Guys, this is an answer not a question, the group discount hot boxing seems to be too hard to organize, SO, you put any soft (not blue or colder) wax on your skis, base prep wax is great and Fresh Air will put them in the hot box overnight for $5.00, you get them back and scrape and brush them. Hot boxing really works but if you do the waxing work it makes it a lot cheaper. $5 any time. We really do like helping you guys as much as we can, thanks Chris |

we would like to join nakkertok, is there any room? |

| Haha! Petter and Bjorn, we'll try to find some room in the programs for you. Nakkertok is in very high demand these days! Some of our Jr A's do need some additional competition though...

What is the process for getting our skis hotboxed by Fresh Air ... do we deliver our skis (glide waxed) to the store on a specific date?
Thanks, Beth |

Hey Beth,
The skis can be glide waxed or not. Mike has been trying to get enough pairs (I think it's 8) of skis to get a discount for the hotbox. However, he hasn't been able to get enough so you'd have to pay the regular Fresh Air price of $17.65. You can take them in any time I believe.
